The rules

The DigiThrow Competition, at a venue or online: the Casual challenges, one per weapon, and the official events, taken from the sport's knife and axe throwing rulebook.

The spirit of the leaderboards

The DigiThrow leaderboards run on the honor system. They have no value in themselves: they are training leaderboards, to see where you stand, set yourself a goal and improve. Nobody checks scores counted by hand, and that’s deliberate.

“Official” refers to the format of the events, taken from the sport’s rulebook. These leaderboards don’t replace those of refereed competitions.

And if someone cheats? They’ll push the others to get better, and they themselves will never improve.

For both games

  • Up to six players, on the same event: everyone plays round 1, then everyone plays round 2, and so on.
  • Each throw scores the zone it hits. An impact straddling two zones scores the higher one. A throw off the target, or a knife that doesn’t stick, scores 0.
  • At a venue, the camera can count the impacts. Online, you tap the zone you hit yourself. During the game, Cancel and Miss correct the last throw.
  • Only the scores of logged-in accounts join the leaderboards; guests’ scores stay in the game. Anyone can remove their scores from My space, but never change them.
  • A thrower appears once per leaderboard, with their best score.

Casual Competition

One challenge per weapon, in seven rounds. Each player chooses their level; one leaderboard per weapon, all levels combined.

Simple

Real-size targets, points ×1.

Medium

Targets at 75%, points ×1.25.

Expert

Targets at 50%, points ×1.5.

Timed series speed up in the same proportions. Ringed target: 1 to 5 points toward the center; on an offset target, the rings are no longer centered. Numbered targets: four targets, smaller and smaller, from 1 to 4 points, one hit per target.

EventHow it playsMaximum in Simple
Axe7 throws: 3 on the ringed target, 2 on an offset target, 2 on the numbered targets.33
KnifeThe same 7 rounds, with 3 throws per round.93
ShurikensThe same 7 rounds, with 3 throws per round.93
Suction cup axeThe axe’s 7 rounds.33
ArcheryWhite, blue, red and gold faces (1 to 4 points). 2 arrows on a large face, 2 triangles of 3 faces, then 3 timed series: one face every 5 s, then every 4 s.68
Blaster6 darts per round on three-ring targets (1 to 3 points), which light up one by one, faster and faster.126

Official Competition

The events from the sport’s rulebook, with the knife and the axe. No levels and no multipliers, except for the Burst delay: each event and each distance has its own leaderboard.

  • The distance is a minimum: the front foot doesn’t cross it, with about a meter (3 ft) of margin behind.
  • Precision and Walkback are played on three 50 cm targets when your board can hold them. Otherwise, you choose: one target, with the knives removed between throws, or three targets with the outer rings removed. The rings always keep their official size.
  • Silhouette, speed and Burst are played at real size. On a board that’s too small, the game shrinks them to fit and says so; the leaderboard shows it.

Precision

Rotation knife and no-spin knife at 3, 5 and 7 m · Axe at 4, 5 and 7 m

  • 50 cm target with five rings, from 1 to 5 points. 7 series of 3 throws, one per target: 21 throws, 105 points.
  • With a rotation knife, at least a half-turn at 3 m. With the axe, at 5 m, the blade is reversed: the axe sticks with the handle pointing up.
  • Rotation knife and no-spin knife are two weapons, with their own leaderboards. In no-spin, the knife doesn’t make a half-turn in flight.

Walkback

Rotation and no-spin knife from 3 to 7 m · Axe from 4 to 8 m

  • 4 series. In each series, 3 throws at each distance, stepping back one meter each time: 60 throws, 300 points.
  • The score table has one column per series.

Silhouette

Rotation and no-spin knife at 3 m · Axe at 4 m

  • 15 targets of 10 cm, numbered 1 to 15, around a silhouette of two red ovals. A single throw per target, in numerical order.
  • Right target: 5 points. Another target or a miss: 0. In the silhouette: −10, every time. 75 points maximum, and the total can be negative.

Speed throwing

Rotation knife, at 3 m minimum

  • Stick as many knives as possible in a 50 cm target in 20 seconds. 1 point per knife stuck.
  • The knives are held in one hand and thrown one at a time. A knife already released at the end signal counts.

Burst

Rotation knife and no-spin knife, at 3 m

  • 6 knives, a single round. 6 targets of 20 cm with three rings (1 to 3 points) light up one after another: right then left, at three heights. Each knife aims at the lit target.
  • Before throwing, the player chooses how long each target stays lit, which multiplies their score: 2 s ×1, 1.75 s ×1.25, 1.5 s ×1.5, 1.25 s ×1.75, 1 s ×2, 0.9 s ×2.2, 0.8 s ×2.4, 0.7 s ×2.6, 0.6 s ×2.8, 0.5 s ×3, 0.4 s ×3.5, 0.3 s ×4.
  • Designed for throwing with both hands, without making it compulsory. The first target at each height is on the right, or on the left for left-handers. One leaderboard per event, all delays combined.
